Assessment

E-Scan Math Assessment
The purpose of the math assessment is to determine the students’ level of ability which will lead to Math6Month programs best suited to each student. We firmly believe assessment drives instruction and affects learning. Therefore, we have invested numerous resources in developing E-Scan Math, the most accurate, reliable, and statistically valid math assessment tool.

Unique Features of E-Scan Math Assessment

  • Two-tier assessment

Students are required to take two math assessment tests: computation and math skills. First, we evaluate student’s current computation skills from simple number sense to pre-algebra levels: counting, addition/subtraction, multiplication/division, fraction, decimal, ratio, percent, and algebraic operation. Consecutively, we assess his or her overall level in diverse domains of math skills of which criteria are exactly aligned with common core math standards, and categorize the results in four levels: level 1 (below 40%), level 2 (40-69%), level 3 (70-90%), and level 4 (above 90%).

  • Common Core aligned, realistic questions

In E-Scan Math assessment, math questions are diverse and realistic, covering all aspects of math comprehensively. All questions are precisely tuned that there is no lapse or sudden jump in difficulty levels. The outcome of the assessment reveals the most accurate picture of strength and weakness of each student.

  • Comprehensive reports

When the assessment is over, E-Scan Math generates the most comprehensive report which includes assessment summary, in-depth analysis, and academic focus and projection. Unlike other math assessments, it recommends the optimal programs which help students overcome math problems promptly and accelerate their excellence in math.

    Cover Letter

As the name indicates, the Cover Letter is the front page of E-Scan Math reports. After printing it, you may check the relevant boxes for sections you want to print. As you see below, there are four reports available for E-Scan Math test.

    Assessment Summary

Items in Assessment Summary in Math test differ from that of E-Scan Reading test.
E-Scan Math reports generates in-depth analysis of the test results in three ways: by category, by difficulty level of questions, and by word problem.

E-Scan Math summary contains valuable information for class placement, recommended sessions to take, analysis by categories, etc. Hence, be familiar with all information as much as you can. This information is important to assume which Math program a student needs to take.
This detailed analysis is critically important for successful implementation of instruction and consequent improvement in student. Pay extra attention to category marked in ‘Needs Improvement.’ You need to bring this matter to the attention of an instructor, too.

    Academic Focus & Roadmap

Based on the results of E-Scan Math test, E-Scan 2.0 generates Academic Focus which Math6Month will prioritize with the instructional emphasis and renders the annual Academic Roadmap which indicates yearly goals and objectives.

Be advised that Academic Focus is completely aligned to Common Core State Standards (CCSS), and instructional emphasis should be placed on areas as described. You should refer to this report to demonstrate how well the student will improve in Math for six month and for a year.

    Analysis by Questions

E-Scan 2.0 produces detailed analysis by questions. Analysis by Questions is about student’s performance in all categories in his/her grade, which are completely aligned to Common Core State Standards. Unlike Analysis by Questions in E-Scan Reading test, it contains information about difficulty level of each question and whether the question in problem solving type or not.

You may break right and wrong answers by categories, and use this information for counseling to parents. Be advised that all questions in E-Scan Math have different degree of difficulty. If parents want to see actual questions, you should explain to them that there is a charge of $50 as a question reprocessing fee, and it takes 48 hours to reprocess.

  • Improved reliability and validity

Essential functions are embedded to enhance reliability and validity of the assessment tool. For example, if a student accidently or intentionally exits the E-Scan Math assessment during the test, the student can easily pick up where he or she left off. Also, each question in computation and math skills are carefully created, maintaining the degree of difficulty of each grade level as presented in Common Core State Standards.
